Founded in 1924 by James N. Gamble of Procter & Gamble, City Gospel Mission helps the homeless and hurting break the cycle of poverty and despair, one life at a time. They engage, equip and empower those in need with the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical skills and resources to achieve long-term life transformation and relative self-sufficiency.
A Mission for All
City Gospel Mission collaborates with more than 350 local churches and 2,500 volunteers in the Cincinnati area to serve more than 6,800 adults and 3,500 youths annually. CGM supports programs and services that are centered on caring, personal relationships and focused on four key service areas:
Food/Shelter: City Gospel Mission annually serves nearly 110,000 nutritious meals and provides more than 42,000 nights of safe shelter. During the holidays, CGM serves Thanksgiving meals to over 3,000 families and holds a party with gifts for more than 120 senior women at our Christmas Boutique.
Recovery: CGM offers men’s and women’s long-term addiction recovery programs, which include transitional housing and aftercare. Volunteers aid those in recovery by training alongside them to comprise CGM’s 400-member-strong Flying Pig Marathon team.
Jobs: CGM assists with job readiness and placement programs for people who have felony records and limited work histories, as well as people who do not. A traditional 10-week job readiness program helps men and women with life challenges prepare for success on the job, and the Fast Track program helps advanced clients find a job more quickly.
Youth: CGM funds a tutoring and mentoring program that reaches more than 1,100 at-risk youth at over 60 sites locally. Programs include summer camps, college scholarships, basketball, ballet, cycling, Hispanic outreach and more. Annually, CGM also helps more than 370 parents buy gifts for 1,300 children at their Christmas Store.
Spreading a Message of Sacrifice for Others
City Gospel representatives are available at events throughout the year, providing information about their mission, activities and programs. These individuals are often successful former participants from City Gospel Mission programs. RGI believes in giving back to the Cincinnati community. We reached out to organizations like City Gospel Mission in 2017 and were more than happy to help them by updating the informative display boards used to support CGM representatives. RGI was able to offer valuable design services that are usually outside CGM’s budget limits.
